Volunteers Make It Work

Mary Kay - 3When our patients walk through the door, we know it can feel a little scary. Even with the signs, it can be hard to know which way to go. So we are grateful for our volunteers who greet patients and their families with a smile.

“We let patients know if they need to check in or not and help them figure out where to go,” said Volunteer Wilma Rankin. “Something as simple as giving directions seems to really put patients at ease.”

Sometimes that means giving directions or answering questions. Other times it means refilling the coffee, helping patients get around or lending a hand to fill out forms.

“Volunteering provides a sense of purpose,” Wilma said. “It’s nice to visit with the patients and be helpful.”

All volunteers wear a “Volunteer” name badge, so they are easy to spot.

They also sign the same confidentiality form as our staff, promising they will not share a patient’s private health information with anyone.

Our volunteers don’t just do the work; they make it work.

If you’d like to be one of our volunteers, we’d love to hear from you.
